I am not a director -- I’m a performer. Sorry, a "promising young performer." Although I tried my best to offer any guidance I can, the truth of the matter is that everything that this show became was the product of all three of us -- Dana Gitlin, Ross Goldstein, and myself. The task was difficult. Jonathan Larson writes real life - and paradoxical as it may seem, real life is probably the most difficult of all genres to portray. I had incredibly high hopes and expectations when I selected my fellow cast members - expectations that they both not only met, but exceeded beyond anything I could have imagined. And I mean that -- it was absolutely incredible to work alongside such gifted and sincere people. We did this together -- and together, I know that we created something wonderful.
It was literally in a dream that the idea to do this musical came to my head. As anybody who has spent even five minutes with me can probably tell you, Jonathan Larson means a lot to me - he is an inspiration both to how I live my life, and just as much, to what I want to do with that life. It is an incomprehensible tragedy that Jonathan can no longer be around to provide us with all of the love and music that he still had to give - but even in his death, one may find the inspiration to live every moment to the fullest. But if there is anything more inspirational than the tragedy of Jonathan’s death, it is the passionate dedication of his life. It is the story of that very dedication that I wanted to bring to the public -- and it was nothing short of magical to see that dream come true.
I have never in my life been more proud of anything than I am of this production. Below, you will find pictures and some audio and video clips from the production. I hope you enjoy your experience with "Tick, Tick...Boom!"
